13th Sept:       5th class field trip to Dun na Sí to study the Turlough.

6th class 22 km cycle from Moate to Streamstown and back, 29th Sept, thanks to parents Sinead Doyle and Ger Leijen who attended.

Sport

Ambrose Mc Gowan will be training of Boys & Girls football two evenings a week after school in Caulry pitch.  He is being helped by Ms Rooney, Ms Cahalin, Mr Swords and Ms Curran.

Both teams are through to the semi finals of in Cumman na mBunscol.

Football Coaching from GAA coach Paul McManus 1st - 6th Class every Tuesday morning in school.

Soccer training for 3rd - 6th class for 6 weeks from Aoife Walshe transition year student who plays for Athlone Town and was selected for the under 16 Irish Soccer Team.

World Cup Tag Rugby Blitz : Oct 6th,  5th & 6th representing South Africa organised by Connacht Rugby in Buccaneers.

3rd & 4th Class - Tag Rugby training with Charlie Cooper, Buccaneers.

Swimming

4th 5th & 6th class have swimming lessons Nov & Dec

2nd & 3rd class have swimming lessons throughout Jan & Feb

STEM:

Maths Week 16th - 24th Oct  & Science Week 13th - 17th Nov (see gallery for photos)

Senior classes did fun maths and science activities with the junior classes throughout Maths and Science weeks., coordinated by Ms Rooney.

Literacy

Third Class writing project: postcards and letters. Children in 3rd class writing letters to famous people and waiting patiently for some return post and parcels.

Religious Celebrations 

26th September: Beginning of School Year Mass.

14th November:  4th 5th & 6th School Choir trained by Ms Kilduff singing for Active Age Mass.

18th December :  Nativity/ Carol Service.  Thanks to Ms Kilduff who trained the choir and directed the performance.

14th February:  Ash Wednesday Whole School Mass

Assemblies

28th September Whole School Assembly school rules & anti-bullying

20th October Whole School Assembly Elected members of the student council performed their winning speeches.

31st January  Whole School Assembly Children shared their learning and achievements through, Drama, Song, Music and Words

Operation Christmas Child

Ms Curran and Ms Cahalin have once again co-ordinated the collection of shoeboxes as part of the Team Hope Operation Christmas Child Appeal. This year we collected 92 shoeboxes from the An Grianán N.S. School community. The shoeboxes left for Albania on the 23rd of November.  Thank you everyone for your support and effort on this.

Junior Mayor Initiative

Creative Schools

6th Class began the BLAST project with mixed media artist, Martina Coyle. Martina is working with sixth class for five Tuesdays in November and December, exploring how art has evolved through the ages. They will also be working with clay and fabric to create a collective class art piece.

Halloween Events

The Annual Spooky Walk for all classes to the Village. Thanks to Michael Dolan for access to walk through the Golf Course.

Junior Infants -2nd class had Halloween games and made magic potions with Ms Curran.

4th/5th Class read Halloween narratives to Junior & Senior Infants.

Parental involvement:

The Parents' Association AGM was held on 3rd October.

The following parents were elected for the coming year.

About 20 parents are also involved with representation from every class in the school.

Tesco Tokens

Thanks to all who made an effort with the Tesco Tokens! Donation of €963 made by Tesco to the school.

Cake Sale Fundraiser

On Friday 1st December, Fifth Class, The Student Council and Ms Cahalin organised and hosted a very successful Cake Sale in the school hall.

Thank you to all who supported the Cake Sale by baking and buying all the delicious baked goods.
We had a fantastic response to the Cake sale and raised an incredible €1600 towards the Music Generation Ukulele Lessons.

Christmas Cards Initiative for the Elderly and the Vulnerable

2nd and 3rd Class children made Christmas cards for the elderly and the vulnerable.This initiative is organised by the Community Gardaí and was coordinated in the school by Ms Killian.

Christmas Carol Service/NativityPlay

Our annual Carol service/ Nativity Play was a tremendous success. Thanks to all the staff who put a lot of work into preparing the children for this event. Special thanks to Ms Kilduff who trained the choir and directed the performance.

The student council asked if we as a school could do a fundraiser for UNICEF Gaza Emergency Appeal. The collection in the church on the evening of our Carol Service raised €711.56 Thanks to everyone who supported this worthy cause.
