An Grianán NS opened its doors on our current site in 1964. Prior to this school was based in the local Community Centre in the village. Since 1964 the school has grown in terms of numbers and size. In 2014 we celebrated our Golden Jubilee with a special Mass and the publication of a souvenir commemorative booklet. In this are interviews with many people who shared their memories of the school.
Our school has been extended/refurbished 4 times since 2002. The original building and classrooms are still in use today but are now surrounded by the new corridors and rooms. We recently completed an energy upgrade under the Pathfinder Energy Retrofit scheme and we are presently the only school in Ireland using geothermal energy to heat our school.
The life of our school is ever-changing. Whether we look back or forward, change is a constant presence. But from back in the time of the Community Centre through 1964 and on up to today and beyond, the children have always been at the centre of school life and THAT will never change.
